The former Real Madrid midfielder revealed after years that he has decided to leave the team because of Pep Guardiola.

Xabi Alonso has revealed that he left Real Madrid for Bayern Munich because he was “curious” to learn the secrets of Pep Guardiola’s coaching.

Xabi Alonso left the team in 2014 after five seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu and left for Bayern Munich. Alonso left Madrid three months after helping Real win the Champions League and spent three years at Bayern before retiring.

Explaining his reasons for leaving Real, Alonso said: “I was very curious to discover Guardiola’s secrets. He has an unceasing natural passion for football. Football competitions are long, but right until the end, Pep never gets tired.

Alonso, who took over at Real Sociedad B in June, also praised the work of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The former Spain international, who played for Borussia Dortmund during his time in Madrid and Bayern, said: “I did not enjoy playing against them because Dortmund is physically involved in running the football club. The club throws the opposing team into a cage, and against this team, I was under pressure all the time. Playing against club teams has always been tough and I do not remember that.
