News i Agency – Lebanese delegation visits Syria; Damascus: The West politicizes the return of refugees

According to News i Agency’s International Group, the Lebanese delegation headed by Minister of Social Affairs and Tourism Ramzi Musharrafieh met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Muqaddad.

During the meeting, strategies were discussed to strengthen cooperation for the return of all Syrian refugees to their homeland voluntarily and safely, as well as to provide conditions to encourage these refugees to return.

According to the Syrian News Agency (SANAAl-Muqaddad stressed that Damascus welcomes the return of all displaced people to its homeland and provides the necessary facilities for the safe return of displaced persons and will provide them with a good living situation.

At the same time, the Syrian Foreign Minister said that some Arab countries have dealt with the case of the return of Syrian refugees politically and resorted to misleading methods, distorting the facts and putting pressure on the host countries of these refugees.

The Lebanese minister also said that the difficult situation in Lebanon and Syria due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, as well as its difficult economic situation, has made the case of the Syrian refugees a priority.

He expressed hope that progress would be made in this regard and said that bilateral contacts would continue.

The two sides agreed to try to encourage the displaced to return to their country and to urge international organizations not to obstruct the safe and voluntary return of the displaced.

The Lebanese minister said that the Syrian government is ready to repatriate its citizens and that coordination is underway between the Syrian government and the Lebanese government to ensure the safe return of Syrian citizens.

The number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon reaches about 1.5 million, and Lebanon wants the safe return of these refugees to their homeland.
