According to News i Agency’s International Group, after the meeting between the Presidents of Russia and the United States in Geneva, Switzerland, the leaders of the two countries issued a joint statement.

According to the news agency “Armena Press“We, US President Joseph R. Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, note that the United States and Russia have shown that even in times of stress, they can achieve common goals,” the Kremlin said in a statement. “They can make strategic progress in reducing the risk of military conflict and the threat of nuclear war.”

“The recent renewal of the New Start Treaty is an example of our commitment to nuclear weapons control,” the statement said. “Today, we reaffirm the principle that there is no victorious nuclear war and we should never enter into such a war.”

“In line with these goals, the United States and Russia will enter into a stable and strategic bilateral dialogue in the near future,” the statement concluded. “Through this dialogue, we are working to pave the way for arms control measures and reduce future threats.”

News sources reported on Wednesday evening that the presidents of Russia and the United States were holding talks in Switzerland. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said two rounds of talks had taken place between Putin and Biden. The first round of talks lasted about two hours, Peskov said.

The Associated Press also reported that Biden told Putin at the first meeting that it was always better to have a face-to-face meeting.

The two last met a decade ago. The Swiss president greeted the two separately before meeting them and welcomed them into the “City of Peace” as he stood between the two presidents.

After arriving at Villa Lagrange, Putin expressed hope that the meeting with Biden would be “fruitful.”
