According to News i Agency’s International Group, the number of casualties increased following the spread of forest fires on the southern coast, which is burning and swallowing everything in its path for the fifth day in a row.

Turkish Health Minister Fakhreddin Koca announced on Sunday evening that the death toll from the blaze in Manavgat had risen to eight.

Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes since Wednesday.

The Turkish Ministry of Forestry says 13 planes, 45 firefighting helicopters and 828 fire engines are working around the clock to contain the blaze.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday declared a “state of emergency” in the affected areas following widespread wildfires in the country’s forests.

Turkish Presidential Spokesman کالbrahim Kalینn also described the massive fire in Antalya as a national catastrophe. “All our ministries are strongly opposed to them.”

On Sunday evening, a group called the “Fire Children Initiative” affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) – considered terrorist by Turkey – claimed responsibility for a fire in the forests of Antalya.

The President of the Republic of Turkey also announced that a person has been arrested in connection with his involvement in massive forest fires in the country. (More details)
