A Hamas spokesman said the movement had sent clear messages to the Zionist regime about the need to release Maher al-Akhras, a Palestinian prisoner who has been on a hunger strike for 77 days.

“We are ready for any scenario,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum was quoted as saying by Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, according to News i. We want freedom and maintaining the health of skilled people. Hamas will be on the field with all its might to release Maher al-Akhras. The case of Maher al-Akhras is the case of a nation, and administrative detention is one of the worst arrests in human history.

“The occupying Israeli regime oppresses Al-Akhras and his brothers in prisons,” Barhum said. The case of the captives is free in the hearts and consciences of every Palestinian.

He continued: “Detention without trial or list of charges and extension of detention is more than once a crime committed by the occupiers against Palestinian prisoners.” The case of Maher al-Akhras put the case of oppression and the problems that the prisoners face in front of the humanitarian and legal institutions of the world, and the world must take the necessary measures to save him and his brothers.

He added: “All the people are united with Al-Akhras, whose situation has become very bad.” The Palestinian Authority in Ramallah has not taken appropriate positions to end the suffering and problems that this prisoner is facing. The PA should raise the issue of prisoners in all international forums because it has the political and diplomatic tools at its disposal. We are surprised that he does not fulfill his moral, human and national duties towards Al-Akhras and his companions.

Barhum said: “Al-Akhras needs popular field action, so we ask everyone to take action and express their solidarity with Maher Al-Akhras.” We have a principle for the release of prisoners that we strive to achieve. We have a strategic treasure and we will dictate our terms to the occupiers.

“We want the release of all prisoners, especially old prisoners, women, children, the sick and those who have been sentenced to long prison terms,” he said.
