According to News i, quoting the Middle East News website, Asaeb Ahl al-Haq of Iraq said that the drone attack on Erbil International Airport was the response of Iraqi resistance groups to the recent US bombing of the popular uprising.
In this regard, “Saad Al-Saadi”, a member of the political office of Asaeb Ahl-e-Haq, stated in an interview with Shafaq News: “Last night’s drone operation at Erbil International Airport was part of a response to resistance groups in the form of a statement by the coordination committee The United States had promised it to the children of the popular uprising; A crime committed by the United States by bombing the position of the 16th Brigade on the Iraqi-Syrian border.
Al-Saadi concluded: “In the coming days, we will see an increase in the number of special operations against the presence of American forces so that the Americans will comply with the Iraqi parliament’s decision to leave the country and respect the Iraqi sovereignty.”
Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials have previously said that Erbil International Airport was targeted by a suicide bomber who set fire to areas far from the airport without causing much damage.
The Pentagon said it was aware of the attack but that initial reports showed no casualties.
Wayne Maruto, a spokesman for the US-led coalition in Iraq, tweeted that a drone had crashed near the Erbil military base at about 11:15 p.m. local time, with initial reports indicating that the attack had caused no damage.
