“I was really born as a director in Venice in 1983 (…) in the Mezzogiorno Mezzanotte section. 38 years later, I am called to open the Mostra. I am really grateful to the festival for this honor and I hope to be at the height”, reacted the Spanish director, quoted in the press release.
Festival director Alberto Barbera, for his part, was delighted to welcome “this intense and sensitive portrait of two women confronted with the themes of a motherhood with unpredictable twists and turns, of female solidarity, of a sexuality experienced in full freedom and without hypocrisies “.
Pedro Almodovar, 71, had received in 2019 a Golden Lion of Honor for his entire career.
