Michel Ocelot is exhibiting at the Château d’Annecy Museum until October 11, 2021. “Michel Ocelot, fireworks of the imagination “ is thereopportunity to dive back into the treasures of animated cinema such as Kirikou (1998), Azuret Asmar (2006) or Dilili in Paris (2018).
Through the adventures of the facetious Kirikou, Michel Ocelot allowed himself to realize his own dreams. The tiny African kid who lives in an imaginary village decides to deliver the villagers from the evil hold of Karaba. Endowed with kindness and great intelligence, this ultra dynamic little guy came out of the imagination of Michel Ocelot. “This little child, much better, looks like me, Kirikou wants everyone’s good and he’s getting there, me not really”, smiles the creator. Each work by Michel Ocelot is a unique and personal little gem. In 25 years, he produced half a dozen animated films of great delicacy.
Director of animated films, Michel Ocelot is above all a jack-of-all-trades craftsman. Designer, cutter and decorator, the exhibition at the Annecy museum is rich in 400 original works. Visitors are invited to stroll through lacy landscapes, to enter theaters of light and shadow, but also to admire meticulously crafted costumes. “Gold placemats, precious stones, folded paper, a real feather … there is something going on here that is not happening with the computer generated image”, details Michel Ocelot. The course is tasted like a marvelous tale: that of the course of this artificer of the imagination.
